April 5, 2008, I will be sharing a workshop on “How Presbyterians do Evangelism.”
From looking into Google, I’m not sure Presbyterians actually do any evangelism, or at least it doesn’t seem to show up that often.
I’ll post the workshop slides PDF here at EvangelismCoach when it is over.

Sure we do evangelism…badly, that’s how. But maybe our fear of evangelism is sort of a good thing, at least in that we don’t tend to be in the “overly agressive in-your-face turn-or-burn” camp, either.
Maybe our lack of skillz can be a good starting point for a new kind of evangelism in a new age (if our denomination doesn’t die off first, that is). Wow–I’m not being cynical, here am I?

Well, I’m trying to change that!
I was once told by a session member that after 6 months of studying evangelism, they understood evangelism to mean “finding the presbyterians in their neighborhood.”
The tagline for the workshops on personal evangelism has become “how to share your faith without being obnoxious.”
But I also think that many folk are afraid of giving offense that very little is shared, while others are so motivated by a fear of their friends going to hell that they are willing to give offense.
Extreme examples yes, but I guess part of your motivation will be shaped by what matters more to you.
Reese has a lot to say about that in her book Unbinding the gospel.
Are you going to San Antonio’s conference next week?
