As a family, we are getting involved with a new church plant here in our city.
Lots has been written about launching a church.
I’ve already spent 5 years of my ministry life launching one.
One strategy to grow the church we using: prayer.
Making a prayer list
Here is how we made a prayer list of friends.
- Build list of 10 people: some of whom are seekers, some of whom are believers without a church.
- Pray daily for them by name.
- Listen for God’s guidance.
Listening for God
We listen for God’s direction about when to speak of the church, when to speak of Christ, and even whom to add to that list of people to pray for.
We look for those divine appointments.
We listen for spiritual thirst.
Surprise results
It’s a great exercise as it forces us to pay attention to the number of relationships with non-Christians.
Because we have recently moved to a new city, our list of contacts is still pretty small.
We didn’t realize how small until we needed to develop this list.
As a result, this caused us to pray this morning about some upcoming social events that we will be attending and asking the Lord to show us whom we are to be connecting with and praying for.
Prayer produces fruit
We are convinced that when we pray, we will see the growth of our church.
I have a friend planting a church in Panama City, and they are experiencing phenomenal growth — mostly because of prayer. Read: 3 Keys to Church Growth — Case Study
